The Warriors was originally released on PS2, and Xbox back in 2005, and developed by Rockstar Toronto. The Warriors from first glance could make your stomach turn, the reason being is its based on a movie. Although that is a bad thing in many cases with movie related games, Rockstar Games is able to pull off something wonderful.
Being a big fan of the book and movie, I had no doubt this would be a fun game, if done right. What makes it even more interesting is how the game not only, give you what the movie may, but adds upon what the movie delivered. With the game starting before the events of the movie, up to that point, then also adding flashback missions.
The Warriors doesn’t pull off anything new or astounding for that matter. It does however recreate a feeling of the movie almost perfect, and puts a story together so well its crazy. The game is a beat em up, which doesn’t come with a lot of complex moves, and you want be doing some crazy combo mashing, it is fun though.
Probably the most fun this game has is it’s free roam, where you can do little side missions. Getting to explore Cony Island is fun, the only draw back is it being so small. If there was a big con about the game, that’s the only thing I would complain about.
The Warriors managed to bring something to life in video games, that to many people may have been dead or otherwise forgotten about. It was really nice seeing this game, expose the Warriors to a new generation.
